Privacy notice
Plain words about your information: what we keep, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
- Your name and email address, when you create an account.
- If you sign in with Google: the name and profile photo on your Google account.
- Your course progress: which courses you enrolled in and which lessons you finished.
- Your assessment attempts and scores.
- Your certificates, each with its code, course, score and date.
- If you apply to teach: the details you give in your application.
Why we use it
To run your account, show your progress, grade assessments, issue certificates and let others verify them, review tutor applications and courses, give you support, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your information.
Who can see what
- A tutor can see the names and progress of learners on their own courses. A tutor never sees your email address.
- A certificate's details (your name, the course, score and date) are shown only to someone who has its code or link. Certificates are not listed publicly.
- Administrators can see account and course information when needed for support, review and preventing misuse.
Where it is stored
Your information is stored with our database and sign-in provider, Supabase, in a data centre in the European Union (Ireland). Passwords are handled by that provider and are not visible to us.
Cookies
We use only the cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you may:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you (access);
- ask us to correct information that is wrong (correction);
- ask us to delete your information (deletion);
- object to how we use it (objection).
To use any of these rights, contact us through the address published on this page once it is available. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and learning records while your account is open. Because a certificate must stay verifiable, a certificate you earned is kept for as long as it is valid, unless you ask for deletion or it is revoked. When you delete your account we remove your personal information, except where we must keep something for a legal reason.
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be shown when you sign in.
